3 Fibromyalgia Blogs You Need to Check Out

With the thousands of blogs out there, it’s hard to find remember what you started looking for when fibrofog sets in.

After scouring the Internet, here are three blogs that offer unique advice on coping with  fibromyalgia.

Chronic Babe

Jenni Prokopy, founder Chronic Babe.

Independent writer Jenni Prokopy, 37 of Chicago, started Chronic Babe because of the lack of support she felt when she was diagnosed with fibromyalgia in 1997. Jenni said,

I went to support groups, but all of the people were of retirement age. They said things to me like, ‘you don’t belong here.’ Or ‘You’re too young to be in pain.’

After a few years of this, Jenni decided to share her knowledge of fibromyalgia through blogging.

Prior to creating the site, Jenni brainstormed with women who were health experts, feminists and “sick chicks.”

The title Chronic Babe was chosen unanimously among the people involved.

However there have been some misinterpretations of the name. Jenni said,

People thought it was about pot. It’s not a porn site either, but you gotta have a sense of humor about this stuff.

Jenni’s sense of humor about her illness shines through in her writing and blog posts.

The other day, Jenni received an email from someone she thought was so funny that she posted it on Chronic Babe.

Since its start, Chronic Babe has reached over 700 people.

Her original goal for the site was to “help other young women, inspire them and learn from them too,” she said. “I feel like I have achieved [that].”

Fibromyalgia: Complementary and Alternative Medicine Treatments-My Journey

Christine created a blog about using alternative treatments for fibromyalgia because of her experience with them. Christine said,

I found I was experiencing a lot of success and positivity through these alternative methods and I really wanted to share this information with other fibro-folk.

The posts range from practicing tai chi to organic foods to chemicals in commonly used products that might cause fibro-flare ups.

Posts also include book reviews and healthy recipes.

Unique sections of the  blog are “Inspiration,” “My Letter,” and “FibroLibrary.”

The Inspiration section allows other bloggers to post inspirational quotes that help them.

My Letter is an actual letter Christine wrote to friends and family explaining her illness.

In the letter she tells people what they should know about fibromyalgia in general and as well as how it affects her personally.

She goes into detail about how aspects such as fatigue, depression and insomnia among various other symptoms affect her life.

The FibroLibrary is a collection of books, DVDS, and CDs that Christine recommends. “FibroWHYalgia” and “Alternative Cures That Really Work” are among the books recommended.

A fun exercise program she recommends is the Wii Fit Plus with balance board, which can be used for exercises such as yoga.

Fibromyalgia Diet and Exercise

The main focus of this blog is on exercises and diet options.

One post describes the best exercises for people with fibromyalgia. Suggestions from this post include swimming, biking, walking and yoga because they are all low impact activities.

There is an entire section devoted to the “fibromyalgia diet.”

In this section posts emphasize the importance of vitamin D in one’s diet, a fibromyalgia diet plan, as well as updates on news regarding fibromyalgia diets.

This video details natural dietary solutions for fibromyalgia pain.
